Positive report for Barra Care at Home service

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Health and Social Care Department and the Care at Home team are delighted with the Barra care at home service’s recent report published by the Care Inspectorate.

The service was awarded the classification of a grade of five, meaning ‘very good’ across the assessed areas. These related to key areas such as how well the team supports people, the standard of the department’s leadership and staffing, as well as how it plans to deliver its service. This report reflects significant strengths across all these areas highlighting the dedication and commitment from the staff team.

Care at Home Barra is a new service that provides care and support to people living in their own homes on the islands of Barra and Vatersay. The service operates under a single Integrated Locality Manager to meet the needs of the service users on Barra & Vatersay, following consideration of feedback from the service users, their families, and staff.

The recognition of the of the service helps bolster related efforts to enhance the opportunities for further service improvements.

Welcome changes are taking place throughout the entire Comhairle-managed Care at Home services following agreement from the Integrated Joint Board to implement a service restructuring.

The creation of a career pathway includes the creation of a new post of Home Care and Reablement Worker, Grade E. This has been established to enhance career progression options, provide increased resilience in the service as well as supporting recruitment and retention. The post considers the knowledge, experience and skills of staff proficient in the delivery of personal care with a renewed focus on reablement and the mentoring of Home Care and Reablement Assistants.
