Transformer autobots, Jedi knights, apocalyptic survivors and a host of other superhero, fantasy and gaming characters took over Oban’s Corran Halls at the weekend.
This was the town’s second Comic Con, organised by BGCP Comic Con.
Traders, cosplay, workshops, character meet and greets, guests, gaming, props and much more were all there on Saturday creating a buzz about town.
Rockfield Primary pals Thery Ignacy and Lukas Gajel, both six, queued with other Transformer fans to get a meet and greet with the giant autobots up on stage.
Kayla Sulley, 12, travelled all the way to Oban from Dundee to meet her superheroes and said: “It was well worth coming all that way.”
Karina Karainskaite, 18, made the journey from Fort William to cosplay as pink-haired Yae Miko from Genshin Impact.
“It’s pretty cool to have a comic con come to Oban. Usually you have to go to bigger places like Glasgow or Edinburgh if you want to do something like this and that’s not easy for young people. It’s good to get the chance to interact with others who are into the same kind of things as you,” said Karina.
Event organiser BGCP Comic Con started out on Facebook as The Big Glasgow Comic Page back in July 2012. From that it led to setting up a Comic Book Group, pub quizzes, tournaments and eventually a comic book market that ran for several years until outgrowing smaller venues in the city centre. After that, organisers set about running Comic Cons in other cities and towns around Scotland – including here in Oban.
