Repair café pilot set for Fort William

A repair café is to be piloted in Fort William to help locals with small fixes.

Running from noon to 2pm on Saturday, October 7, the café will allow people to bring items in need of small repairs to a team of local ‘fixers’ experienced in woodwork, electrical items, textiles, visible mending, household mechanical and bike repair.

The trial event is being held at New Connections on Fort William’s High Street, and is a collaboration between The Workshop Studios, Fort William Men’s Shed, and Lochaber Enviro.

Participation is free, although donations are welcome.

A pay-what-you-can café will be provided by Nimblefingers.

Carrie Kirkegaard, manager at New Connections, said: “Please come and support our pilot repair café. We would love to make it a permanent thing, but we can only do that with your attendance and support.”

More details on the repair café, which is operating under the guidance ‘if you can’t carry it, we can’t fix it’, can be found on the New Connections Lochaber Facebook page.
