The first home game of the season for the Campbeltown Pupils 2009s (under-15s) saw them take on North Kelvin United 2009s last Sunday, following a tough first game away defeat to Vale of Clyde.

Perfect playing conditions saw the game start evenly, however, it was North Kelvin who started to gain control of the half, and were rewarded for their pressure with two goals that, while they possibly could have been avoided, were good value for their pressure.

The second half saw the Pupils get off to the worst possible start, conceding two more goals in the first five minutes to face an uphill struggle.

The locals battled on however and were rewarded after some neat play in midfield between Kayden Prentice and Jack Green saw the latter send Ryan Johnston through on goal, who made no mistake with an excellent finish.

North Kelvin soon re-asserted their four-goal advantage, before Johnston again pulled one back – latching on to a through-ball to calmly lob the advancing goalkeeper.

North Kelvin scored a scrappy sixth goal, before both teams came close in the last five minutes – a brilliant full length save by Charlie Colville in the Pupils goal keeping the visitors out, and Johnston just failing to grab his hat-trick after another fine run.

The Pupils can take some heart from their performance, and had the positives of home debuts from both Islay Lavery and Lucas McMillan.

The Pupils 2009s would like to thank The Kintyre Larder for its generosity in sponsoring Sunday’s match.

This weekend, the Pupils 2009s are away in the second round of the Scottish Cup to Paisley & District Saturday league team Giffnock SC.
