parkrun stop-off for British coastline couple

A couple walking all around the British coastline to raise money for lifeboats stopped off in Oban – with still enough energy  to join in the town’s weekly parkrun.

Antony and Sally Brown set off from Bude in Cornwall in May with 6,000 miles ahead of them. Averaging 18 to 20 miles a day and only taking a rest day when necessary, the couple are walking the route clockwise.

As well as raising money for lifeboats, they are also raising funds for the Cornwall Air Ambulance and parkrun UK.

Wherever possible, Antony has been planning their walking routes to coincide with a parkrun so he can join in.

At the Ganavan Sands event on September 30, former postman Antony came fourth in a field of 39 participants, pipped by his support driver Andy James who came third.

“We’ve been fortunate to have lots of support along the way but since we arrived in Scotland it’s just got better and better, especially coming through Argyll and Bute.

“The scenery has been incredible and so has the kindness and generosity we’ve been shown,” said Antony.

After Oban, the Browns set off on foot again to Appin, Ballachulish and Fort William. From there they will head to Sunart and the Ardnamurchan peninsula before making their way to Mallaig, Knoydart and beyond.

Antony and Sally have been sleeping in their motorhome Nancy, purpose bought for this mission.

The couple are renting out their home while they are away to help get to their fundraising target. The rental agency is donating its commission.

They hope to make £50,000 for lifeboats and bring in thousands of pounds extra for the other two charities.

If all goes to plan, they hope to make it back to Bude at their original starting point on May 22, the eve of Sally’s 60th birthday.
