Hospitality accolades abound in Argyll

The Ben Cruachan Inn at Lochawe were celebrating after scooping a double win at the 2023 Food Awards Scotland.

The team won Overall Best Gastropub in Scotland, while the business was also awarded a Highly Commended in the Best Hotel Restaurant category.

The awards were held at a gala dinner in Glasgow on Monday August 28 and recognised professionals and establishments with a range of awards and accolades from across the vibrant Scottish food scene.

The Ben Cruachan Inn, which reopened after a full refurbishment in 2017, has grown its culinary reputation for high quality, locally sourced food and has proved popular with residents and tourists.

Members of the team behind the award-winning pub attended the awards dinner already very proud of their nomination in the Gastro Pub category which was voted for by the public. Winning the overall accolade for Overall Best Gastropub in Scotland was the icing on the cake.

Co-owner Tracey Peedle said: “We are delighted and would like to thanks all our customers who nominated us, our great suppliers and, of course, all our fantastic team at the Ben Cruachan Inn.”

Other Argyll businesses who tasted success on the night were The Creel seafood bar, based at Fionnphort on Mull, and Oban suppliers JM Breckenridge.

Meanwhile, over in Tobermory, Mull, The Western Isles Hotel was celebrating an unexpected boost when it received a citation of seasonal excellence as a Summer Star 2023 winner from the team at Hotels of the Year Scotland.

The accolade was awarded for “The enhancement and careful improvement of the landmark hotel, and the clearly very careful management of the rather complex old property. For friendly service and great staff, good food and drink. Well don on moving the grand old lady forward so well!”
