Brodick Post Office to shut

The current Brodick Post Office is to close, it was confirmed as the Banner went to press.

In a huge blow to the island, notice has been given to the Post Office by the Book and Card Centre that it will cease to operate next March.

The announcement comes just three weeks after the Bank of Scotland confirmed it is closing its Brodick branch in January next year. Ironically, the Bank of Scotland suggested its customers could do much of their banking at the Post Office in the village.

While there are other smaller Post Office services around the island, the loss of its main Brodick branch would be devastating. The Book and Card Centre recently completed an extension of the shop to accommodate the service.

A Post Office spokesman said: “I can confirm this Post Office is scheduled to close on March 29 2024. We have recently been informed of the Postmaster’s request to stop operating a Post Office and we’re grateful that they have given us six months’ notice.”

“I can’t confirm what may happen after the end of March 2024,” he added.
