Man’s ‘offensive and obscene’ messages to partner

Sheriff Euan Cameron told a man that he should be ashamed of himself at the October sitting of Campbeltown Sheriff Court.

In the dock was 24-year-old Dean Ridley, a Campbeltown man who admitted that he had repeatedly sent messages on social media to his former partner, who lives in the town, which were grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character.

The offence took place on August 2 this year. Dean’s defence agent, John B McGeechy, told the court: “There were two sides to the original argument.”

Sheriff Cameron deferred sentencing Ridley for six months for him to be of good behaviour.

“This was an appalling way to speak to the mother of your child and you should be deeply ashamed of yourself,” the sheriff said.

The case will call again at the April sitting next year.
