Lochgair village hall opens after £60,000 renovation

The Lochgair Association celebrated the £60,000 refurbishment of the village hall by holding an official opening and throwing a party.

The food was catered by resident Maggie Murray and association chairperson Jean Smith presented a summary of how the community was able to achieve such a feat.

The hall was officially opened by Lochgair’s oldest resident, Tom Clarke.

The village now has a refurbished, modern, spacious village hall with an audio sound system and screen for showing films and carrying out training workshops.

The volunteer team on the project included Michael Cuthbert, Allan Redpath, Dave Wilkinson, Robert Lacy and Marion Quinn.

Alison Wilkinson, with external fundraising, and Bev Cuthbert, with local fundraising, were praised for their work.

Following the modernisation, the hall is set to become a hub of activity for everything from film nights to Tai Chi classes.

The Lochgair Association acquired the hall and the adjoining church from the Church of Scotland last year.

To help the project, the association received a £10,000 award from The National Lottery Community Fund and a £24,000 donation from Ventient Energy A’Chruach Wind Farm Community Fund.
