The same day, the Pans October Medal contest was held on the club’s Pans Course.

Dunaverty Golf Club

Dunaverty Golf Club’s ladies’ October Medal competition was contested by nine hardy participants last Saturday.

All players left the clubhouse well wrapped up against the cold northerly wind and heavy showers.

In the first group, Maureen Johnstone played a steady game and carded a nett 71 to set the pace for the remainder of the field.

Once back in, players enjoyed a warming drink and some delicious food, from Moyra Paterson and her team at The Putt Stop, as they entered their scores.

Despite the heavy early afternoon rain, Rona Young in the last group was able to better Maureen’s score and returned a one-over-par card, nett 66, to take the lead and win the competition.

Result: 1 Rona Young 92-26=66, 2 Maureen Johnstone 103-32=71, 3 Linda Arkell 90-18=72 (bih). Lowest gross: Katharine Hardman 86.

The same day, 18 gents braved the strong winds to compete for Dunaverty’s gents’ October Medal.

The forecast of heavy showers never materialised with only a few passing drops causing concern.

The early pace was set by Gavin Wardrope, who returned a fantastic nett 61 on one of his first competitions at the club to put the pressure on the players who followed.

Neil Brodie – in the last group of the morning – produced some fantastic golf, starting with birdies at the first and second holes, followed by two others in the round, including a three at the 18th, to equal Gavin’s score but take the title by virtue of a better inward half.

The gents also thanked Moyra and staff at The Putt Stop for a much-needed lunch after the golf, and greenkeepers Jonathan Barbour and Campbell MacBrayne for continued excellent work.

Result: 1 Neil Brodie 68-7=61 (bih), 2 Gavin Wardrope 81-20=61, 3 Harry MacLean 72-9=63. Lowest gross: Neil Brodie 68.
