Second planned closure of Uig Harbour

Uig Harbour will close on Monday October 30 for a duration of six weeks for the second phase of infrastructure upgrades.

The planned and programmed outage is required for works to replace life expired infrastructure.

During the closure, the existing linkspan and support structures will be removed and will be replaced by a new linkspan on foundations which were constructed earlier this year.

The linkspan will be installed and commissioned for ferry services resuming on Monday December 11.

During this period, alternative services will be available for customers. A summary of these is available by visiting www.calmac.co.uk/Uig-harbour-closure.

Chairperson of the council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee, Councillor Ken Gowans said: “The second phase of works at Uig are essential to ensure the ferry services on the Skye Triangle route can continue to serve communities and visitors for many years to come.

“This is the second temporary closure, and work has been planned and programmed in a way to get as many key work activities completed over the six weeks.

“I recommend travellers look at the service continuity plans that CalMac are putting in place and follow the links to the timetable information.”

He added: “The Skye Triangle Resilience Group, which includes the minister for Transport and all project partners will continue to meet during the outage period.

Weekly updates will be posted on Highland Council’s website – Uig Harbour redevelopment – to provide regular updates on the works and will address any issues that arise.”
