Praise be! Art show helps save church

Artists exhibiting work to help save a church on Mull for future generations have raised hundreds of pounds.

More than 100 people supported the popular event at Torosay Church on the island.

Artist Aska Marzec, who was joined by artist Jennifer Howitt, photographer Alan Jack, ceramic artist Morar Honeyman and court artist Priscilla Coleman, said: “Huge congratulations to us and to everyone who came to the exhibition! Such joy!”

The exhibition’s total sales came to £1,840 and 20 per cent went to the church, to the tune of £ 368 plus visitor donations of £91.

More than 100 people supported the popular event at Torosay Church on the island.

“We had a grand total of £459. Wow!” said Aska.

She added: “It was lovely to have such supportive and enthusiastic community around
at the event and during the organisation.

“Jennifer, Priscilla, Morar, Alan and myself would like to say a huge thank you for  support in coming along or sharing about the event. It means a lot and matters hugely in regards to the future generations and broader Community of Mull.

“We all enjoyed fun, laughter, even tears at happy memories. We’ve enjoyed organising the event in this space and chatting to people. It’s truly uplifting to see and hear all the positive comments.”

Aska said the exhibition was hugely successful and had motivated organisers to do more.

“We had 110 people coming along. We’re hoping that more people will come forward and help out in different ways, such as looking after the building, and organising different events and workshops.  There’s clearly an interest and purpose for this place in addition to worship for meetings and events of any description. That’s the feedback we’ve received from visitors and residents alike.”
