A perfect day for a game of football saw the Campbeltown Pupils 2009s team surrender a two-goal lead to go down against Hampden FC 2009s at home last Sunday.

An even start to the game saw the young Pupils team take the lead midway through the first half.

Good passing through midfield between Liam Judge and Kayden Prentice saw the latter release Ryan Johnston down the left. The forward cut inside the full back and from 25 yards fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Shortly afterwards, the Pupils doubled their lead. Brilliant footwork by Prentice saw him go past three defenders in a tight space, before releasing Johnston again, who finished in style with a drive into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.

Hampden scored a scrappy goal to half the deficit, before the Pupils’ Rio Arkell burst clear to see his fine effort brilliantly saved by the Hampden goalkeeper.

Unfortunately for the Pupils, lapses in concentration saw a goal in the last minute of the half make the scores 2-2 at the break.

Hampden took the lead within the first minute of the second half, and as the half wore on, the visitors were gradually in the ascendancy.

The young Pupils battled on, but conceded three further goals, the pick of the bunch being a superb overhead kick by the Hampden forward.

The Pupils 2009s would like to thank Peter McKerral and Co Ltd for its generosity in sponsoring Sunday’s match.

This weekend, the Pupils are away in a rearranged fixture in the second round of the Scottish Cup to Paisley and District Saturday league team Giffnock SC.
