Superb standard in latest darts league encounter

There was a superb standard of darts on show in the latest round of the Oban & District Darts (ODD) league.

The Claredon welcomed 17 players to the oche last Friday night, with bonus points flying around during competitive group stages.

Eight made it to the quarter finals after qualifying from three groups of four and one group of five, with the first knockout match seeing Jack Whitley defeat Lewis McPhee 3-1 in a cracking encounter.

Two big ODD league hitters then faced-off, with Adam Brook prevailing to beat Andrew Richie 3-1 in a close battle.

In the other two quarter finals, Iain MacArthur defeated Paul Graham 3-0, before Leon Smith found doubles in each leg to replicate that scoreline against Keegan McPhee.

The semi finals followed and Brook’s experience showed as he defeated Whitley 3-o after his opponent’s first semi final appearance in the ODD.

In the second semi-final, a great game of darts saw MacArthur and Smith score well, with the former finding the target to progress to the final with a 3-1 win.

This set up a fantastic final as Brook and MacArthur both scored a 180 each in a match which Brook won 4-1 to increase his lead at the top of the overall ODD table to 20 points.

The league leader also scored two other 171-180s on the night, with MacArthur and Smith scoring two each and Richie earning one.

Meanwhile, Duncan Macmillan, 146; MacArthur, 138, 100; Brook, 124; Kenny Carmichael, 120, and Whitley, 117, all secured 100-plus checkouts in a great showcase of darts.

The player of the week award went to Jack Whitley who has been improving every week and bagged his first 100-plus checkout and semi-final place on Friday.
