Saints return to action in Scottish Cup

Oban Saints return to action on Saturday, after having no game last weekend, with a tough Scottish Amateur Cup first round tie away to Houston United.

The original fixture should have been played on October 7, but with Oban cut off because the roads were closed as the result of flooding and landslips, Saints were unable to travel.

Saturday’s game against Houston will be played at the Johnstone Sports Hub with a 2pm kick-off.

Houston play in the Greater Glasgow Amateur Football League Premier Division and are presently lying in third place so they will prove difficult opponents for the Oban side.

Manager Ross Maitland will be hoping for a strong squad to choose from for this important fixture.

If the D&K Lafferty Contractors and MKM Building Supplies sponsored Saints win on Saturday they will be on their travels the following weekend to take on UB United in the second round of the national competition.

AFC Motherwell were supposed to be Saints’ opponents in the second round of the West of Scotland Cup but they have been removed from the competition for fielding an unregistered player against Anniesland in the first round so Anniesland have been reinstated to the competition and will travel to play Saints on a date still to be confirmed.

If the Oban side prevail in that game they will take on AFC Chryston at home in the third round.
