Oban throwers step up to the mark

Some great darts were thrown at the Claredon Hotel again last Friday night, with 16 players battling it out on the oche in the Oban & District Darts (ODD) League.

Daniel MacMillan made his ODD debut but it was league leader Adam Brook who added another win to his ever-growing tally this season.

After qualifying from a competitive group stage, Kenny Carmichael and Andrew Richie met in the first quarter-final with a great battle ending 4-3 in Richie’s favour.

An in-form David Flanagan then performed flawlessly to defeat Alex McGuire 4-0, while Brook qualified for the semi-finals with a 4-0 win against Jordan Kerr.

The last quarter-final saw a great match-up between Keegan McPhee and Leon Smith, with both players throwing well and Smith winning a leg with a 120 checkout. It finished 3-3, but McPhee progressed after hitting the final double.

This was followed by another closely fought encounter in the semi-finals as Richie and Flanagan were also drawing 3-3, before the latter found his form in the last leg to make the final.

He was joined by Brook in the last round of the night after the league leader defeated McPhee 4-0 in a game where his opponent put more pressure on him than the scoreline suggests.

This set up a great final involving Brook and Flanagan, with both players scoring strongly and putting each other under pressure as Brook prevailed to win 5-2.

The winner on the night scored six 171-180s, with Connor MacDonald grabbing his first 180 in the league.

There were also 100-plus checkouts for Smith, 120, and Brook, 108, with the Player of the Week award going to Jordan Kerr after he made his first quarter-final.

The ODD league takes place on Friday evenings at The Claredon, Oban, with registration closing at 7pm.
