Taynuilt trials rider tastes more success

A young trials rider from Taynuilt has been looking back on another successful year of competing in events across the country.

Euan Sim competed in this year’s ACU Belle Trailers British Youth Championship, which consisted of seven rounds of racing in Wales, Yorkshire, Surrey, Derby and Leicester, with a class of more than 28 riders.

After leading the B-Class British championship early on and winning four of these rounds, the 14-year-old ended the season by taking third place.

Taynuilt’s Euan Sims tackles some tricky terrain.

He missed out on the title because he was unable to attend one of the rounds through illness.

However, in this year’s Scottish Championship he became the youngest rider to  compete in the top adult expert route. This was authorised by the sport’s governing body, The Scottish Auto Cycle Union, and it proved valuable for Euan’s progression and development in his riding this year.

Euan Sims finished third overall in the 2023 British Youth Championship.

The Taynuilt native also came second overall in the highly competitive Mintex Youth Time and Observation trial in Richmond in September and won the award for best performance from a rider under the age of 15 in an event consisting of 77 riders from across Britain, which is classed as one of the hardest endurance youth events.

As the season came to a close, Euan thanked his local sponsors for all their support throughout 2023 which made it possible for him to travel to and compete in these events.

Euan Sims became the youngest rider to compete in the Scottish Championship this year.

Euan’s sponsors include Highland Leisure Sport; ABC4D Ltd Drainage Supplies; Argyll Building Contractor; Colin Sloss Deer Control; Sinclair Plant; Coastal Campers; Flit Hire; Robin’s Nest Tearoom and Highland Temporary Works.
