WHOA help raise funds for new picnic bench

To help celebrate the 200th anniversary show of the live What’s Happening on Arran (WHOA), the producers have started a crowdfunding campaign to reinstate a picnic bench on the Glen Rosa loop trail near Cnocan Gorge.

Presenters and producers of the topical show, Graham Chappell and Heather Macleod, hope to raise around £600 for a new sustainable bench made from recycled plastic.

The previous bench, which was made of wood, has rotted away and the Ranger Service at Brodick Castle does not have it earmarked for replacement owing to funds being allocated elsewhere.

Through its fundraising page, which can be accessed by searching for A picnic bench for Cnocan Gorge at gofundme.com, the initiative has already raised almost half of its target.

Graham said: “This is a fundraiser set up via What’s Happening on Arran (@arranlive on Facebook) to replace a lost picnic bench on the well-used Glen Rosa loop trail near Cnocan Gorge.

“The previous bench rotted away so we are planning to help give the Ranger Service at Brodick Castle a new one, made from recycled plastic. This will be longer lasting and less likely to be damaged or vandalised.

“The project is not just to celebrate our Facebook page’s 200th live show, but also to ask our followers around the world to help with a small crowdfunding effort in a popular area of Arran.

“The target will help us do this and, if there’s more in the kitty, we’ll happily look at other projects to help maintain our valuable trails.”

WHOA is broadcast live on Facebook each week on a Sunday at 4pm and features all of the current happenings, gossip and news from Arran.
