Oban’s Under 14s rack up the tries in Glasgow

The Oban Lorne RFC U14s Boys side travelled to Glasgow on Sunday to take on Ardrossan and Bishopton in two matches.

The former proved to be tough opponents in the first game and deservedly raced into a 31-0 half-time lead.

However, with the journey out of their system, Oban began to take the game to their opponents in the second-half.

Both Jake Jevons and Eachaan Louw made some great breaks and Oban started to win more line breaks.

They were also offloading the ball in contact more and Oban’s tenacious scrum-half, Finlay Cottier finished off a great try, before Tom Corns added the extras.

Ardrossan hit back with a try of their own to give a final score of 38-7, but Oban had put in a much improved second-half performance, with Man of the Match, Jevons leading the way in defence and attack.

His side took this improved second half performance into their second game against Bishopton, with Cottier racing up the wing to open the scoring in the first minute.

This was followed by four more tries, with braces from Jevons (2) and Arran Budge (2) as Corns converted all four to make it 33-5 after Bishopton scored a try of their own.

Oban continued to score regularly in the second half, with their sixth try coming from Lewis Cairns after good work from Felix Hughes.

Corns converted to make the score 40-5 and the next converted try was scored by Hughes after some good work from Cully Ahmed.

The goalkicker then added a try to his points tally, racing the length of the pitch to score after intercepting an opposition pass.

Corns then hit another successful conversion through the posts to make it 54-5, before two barnstorming Oban tries from Sean Graham and Eachaan Louw.

This was followed by Jevons’ hat trick score, which he duly converted to give an impressive final score of 75-5.

This was an encouraging performance from the Oban boys with Ahmed and Hughes both just two of the standout players, along with Cottier who was given the Man of the Match award.
