Triumphant return to form for Oban Saints 2010s

Oban Saints 2010 enjoyed a triumphant return to form over the weekend, treating the home crowd at Oban High School to a 6-0 victory against Barrhead Yellows 2010s.

Keen to dispel any lingering doubts from the previous week’s stumble, Saints entered the game with palpable determination.

The first half was a masterclass in attacking prowess by Oban. Cairon Macnab ignited the scoring with precision, latching onto a through ball from the dynamic Joe Hill. The early lead was doubled as a defensive lapse from Barrhead allowed James Steward to calmly slot home, asserting the Saints’ dominance.

The momentum built and Oban continued to showcase their offensive flair. Macnab, a constant thorn in Barrhead’s side, volleyed home a corner from the talented Lyam Fox, stretching the lead to 3-0. The roles reversed, as Macnab turned provider, delivering a pinpoint cross for Fox to emphatically slam home, bringing the tally to an impressive 4-0.

The midfield trio of Leon Maclean, Joe Hill, and Innes McKinney orchestrated proceedings with finesse, dictating possession and stifling Barrhead’s attempts to rally. Maclean’s playmaking brilliance shone through as he set up Macnab for a clinical hat-trick just before the halftime whistle, capping off a scintillating first 45 minutes.

Entering the second half with a commanding lead, the coaching staff opted to make strategic changes, providing valuable playing time to the squad. The only goal of the second half came from Fox, once again displaying his goal-scoring prowess, this time courtesy of an assist from the industrious Maclean.

However, amidst the celebrations, a note of concern emerged as Lyam Fox, having contributed significantly to the victory, was forced off through a wrist injury. A subsequent diagnosis revealed a broken wrist.

Looking ahead, Oban Saints 2010s are back on league duty this Sunday, November 19, hosting Helensburgh at the Glen 2 pitch in what promises to be a riveting Argyll derby match. Kick-off noon.
