Lochaber ladies give students a lesson in defence

Both teams turned up determined to play a proper game of rugby – and they did not disappoint.

The first try was scored by Lochaber’s Melissa Cardosi, quickly followed by a try for the home team from a scrum.

The Lochaber ladies didn’t let another try through after that.

The uncontested scrums made for a one-sided competition in that department and Lochaber’s line-outs were outstanding.

The backs capitalised on this and made some beautiful plays. Captain Maddie Lagorio didn’t let the backs have all the fun, carrying a well-earned try over the line herself.

The second half saw the Lochaber ladies scoring three more tries and a fantastic conversion from Emily Brown.

Aberdeen didn’t hand the game over easily, keeping a fantastic defensive line going and making breaks when they had possession.

A penalty to Lochaber saw perfect passing, allowing Melissa to score yet another try.

A scrum to Lochaber saw the girls trying to pull off a kick play. Although this was unsuccessful, a beautiful counter ruck saw Eilidh Towers scoring a final try.

Well done to May and Eibhlin who both played with the ladies for the first time. Melissa earned back of the match and Eibhlin earned forward of the match. Emily was chosen by Aberdeen as overall player of the match.

All the girls deserve a medal for the effort, determination and progress they’ve made. They should all be proud of themselves.

Will Lochaber knock the socks off Aberdeen at home next week? Make sure to make it up to The Hill to support the ladies in yellow and black. Kick-off 2pm.

Fancy being apart of this team? Pop along to the next ladies “Try It Out Night” on Thursday November 20.

• The Lochaber men’s game against Lanark and Clydesdale was postponed last weekend due to the visiting side having insufficient players. This weekend the men travel to play Glasgow Uni Medics at 2pm.
