Christmas postal service returns in new guise

Kintyre’s Christmas postal service is making a welcome return this year, thanks to Campbeltown youth support group The Hub.

Organised for many years by the Rotary Club of Campbeltown, the service was known locally as the ‘Rotary Christmas post’, but the group was forced to stop the service during the pandemic.

The Rotary was contemplating bringing it back but, due to the physical delivery involved, it was decided that a younger generation may be more able.

Now, with the Rotary Club’s support, The Hub is resuming the postal service, taking collections on Main Street on December 6, 9, 13 and 16 from 11am-3pm.

There will also be a collection box in The Courier Centre on Main Street from December 1.

Prices will be 50p per card and the post will be delivered in the week beginning December 18.

“As this is the first year we will be taking the lead on it, we can only offer delivery within the 30-mile limits,” said a spokesperson. “We will see how this year goes and review it next year.

“There is an army of volunteers ready to deliver some Christmas cheer! We understand a lot of people no longer send Christmas cards, so we are keen to rekindle this tradition.”
