Mum’s the word for Spotlight’s panto

Oban’s Spotlight Musical Theatre Group is back with a new panto for 2023 – oh yes, they are!

Hot on the heels of hit shows Treasure Island and 9 to 5 The Musical, the cast proudly presents Mother Hubbard and the Magic Purse.

Mother Hubbard’s orphanage faces financial trouble when Squire Gambit, aided by the mischievous Demon Evil and a never-ending magic purse, threatens to evict her and the orphans.

The squire’s ultimatum is to pay the overdue rent or allow her eldest orphan, Megan, to marry him.

Can Mother Hubbard save the day with the help of her trusty dog Google and the village handyman Andy? Will the bumbling bailiffs Bump and Grind throw a spanner in the works? Can Fairy Good sprinkle some magic on the situation? Will Megan follow her heart after meeting a dashing prince, or be forced to marry the squire?

The cast is drawn from local talent, with Roderick MacEachen playing Mother Hubbard and Caley D’Arcy as Google the dog. Ian Henry is Handy Andy and Gillian MacKechnie and Jack Anderson are the lovestruck Megan and Prince Harry.

Fran Melville creates chaos as Demon Evil assisted by the hapless Bump and Grind played by Lachie D’Arcy and Jessica McCann.

Andrew Baxter is the greedy Squire Gambit and Moira Beaton plays the wonderful Fairy Good. They are joined on stage by their talented ensemble as villagers and a growing youth section as the orphans.

With plenty of music, dancing and laughs this panto has something for everyone, says its makers.

The show runs at the Corran Halls, Oban from Thursday November 30 to Saturday December 2 at 7.30pm, plus a matinee performance on the final day.

Tickets are on sale now online now, small transaction fee applies, at www.spotlightmgt.co.uk/tickets or from now at the Corran Halls on 01631 567333.
