Remembering Hedley Wright

Although he was chairman of the board of a company that has been one of Campbeltown’s biggest employers for almost 200 years, Hedley Wright kept a notoriously low profile.

People not closely associated with him or J&A Mitchell and Co Ltd may not have known about his strong values when it came to treating his employees fairly, and supporting the people of Campbeltown through company trust funds.

The number of people who attended his memorial event is a testament to his character and we are sure he would have been delighted to be honoured in such a musical way.

It is also heartening to hear that those who follow in Mr Wright’s footsteps appear to share his high moral values.

Happy retirement, Sheena

We hope hard-working Sheena Howarth enjoys her farewell celebration with her friends and colleagues after working her final shifts at Campbeltown’s British Red Cross shop this week.

Sheena may also be known to Courier readers for her work over many years on the newspaper’s front desk, dealing with incoming sales and enquiries.

Having now retired from all her jobs, we hope Sheena is finally able to spend time enjoying the things she loves most in life.
