Highland trunk road to close for seven nights

A key road used by motorists heading between Fort William and Oban will be closed for seven nights next month.

The A828 will shut between the hours of 7pm and 7am when resurfacing works begin near Appin on Sunday December 10, with these lasting until Monday December 18.

No works will take place on Fridays and Saturday and amnesties will escort waiting motorists through the works site at 8pm, 9pm, 10pm, 11pm,12pm, 2am and 4am.

Outside of these hours, traffic management will be removed, but a 30mph speed limit will remain in place due to a temporary road surface.

The A828 roadworks are scheduled to finish at 7am on Tuesday December 19.

BEAR Scotland is hoping that the works will help drivers benefit from an improved road surface.

A BEAR Scotland statement said: “Unfortunately, due to restricted road widths through this section of the A828, we have no option but to close the carriageway to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public.

“Emergency service vehicles will be allowed to pass through the site throughout the working period.”

BEAR Scotland’s North West representative, Ian Stewart added: “These essential resurfacing works will upgrade the existing road surface, greatly improving the quality and safety for road users. We thank motorists for their patience ahead of these road improvements.”
