UHI North, West and Hebrides is looking to gain a better understanding of how rural centres in the Ardnamurchan peninsula can best serve the needs of the local community.
Kendra Turnbull, an Ardgour resident and Project Officer for the Centre for Recreation and Tourism at UHI North, West and Hebrides, will be carrying out research over the coming months with a public survey and drop-in sessions online and in Kilchoan, Strontian as well as other local community venues.
UHI North, West and Hebrides has 19 campuses and centres across the North and
West Highlands, Skye, and Outer Hebrides, covering an area larger than Wales.
The college’s Kilchoan and Strontian centres serve the communities of the Ardnamurchan peninsula and offer a range of learning opportunities for individuals
and businesses.
This includes a wide range of HNC, HND, degree and postgraduate study, short business courses, Highers, National Certificates and leisure courses.
Kendra explained: “We really want to gain a better understanding of how our centres
and staff can best be used to serve the needs of the local community going forward.
“At the same time, we want to find out more about the learning needs locally.”
An online survey, for all to complete, is available on the UHI North, West and
Hebrides website pages for Kilchoan and Strontian, and the UHI North, West and
Hebrides’ Facebook page for Kilchoan and Strontian.
In person drop-in sessions will be arranged in Kilchoan, Strontian and other local communities as well as online.
The dates for these will be advertised through the above channels shortly.
“We also hope to speak with key stakeholders, community groups and businesses,” added Kendra.
UHI North, West and Hebrides formed on August 1 2023 from the merger of UHI
West Highland and its partners UHI North Highland and UHI Outer Hebrides.
