LORI initiative helps in cost of living crisis

Lorn and Oban Reuse Initiative (LORI) is giving out more support to families and individuals in crisis thanks to funding

Support from the Argyll and the Islands Community Led Local Development (CLLD) Fund available until the end of February next year, means that LORI can give a 30 per cent discount on essential goods through a new agency referral scheme.

Customers need to qualify to get the help and it comes on a “first come basis” says LORI’s general manager Graham Love, adding: “The GRAB Trust has been in touch with local agencies to help promote the scheme including local housing associations. Homestart, Hope Kitchen and the social work and resettlement teams at Argyll and Bute Council among others.

“If you think the referral scheme could help you or someone you know please get in
touch with your housing association or other support agency and see if they can make a referral to LORI.”

A champion for reuse, The GRAB Trust, which runs the LORI shop at Moleigh near Oban, wants to support people in crisis such as low-income families and people moving on from addiction or homelessness into new tenancies.

“Addressing the need for low cost, good quality furniture and other household items; second hand does not have to mean second best,” added Mr Love.

LORI is keen to receive referrals through Argyll and Bute Council for refugee/asylum seeker families, including those displaced by the war in Ukraine.
