Six of the best as Arran rout Glasgow High side

GHK IV                    0

Arran Ladies          6

Women’s West District 4th Division

Arran travelled to Glasgow last Saturday to play a young GHK IV team at Old Anniesland.

Despite pouring rain, spirits were high and the squad of 12 players were keen to get on the pitch after the previous week’s cancellation.

Arran started well and had early pressure on the GHK goal, drawing saves from their goalkeeper, and demonstrated strong defensive work.

A goal from Lorraine Hewie broke the deadlock. A second Arran goal followed soon thanks to a well taken finish by young player Julia Kulis.

The skilful GHK team created some chances, but the Arran defence of Jenny Crockett, Helen Thomson, Lee Reid, Lynda Fenton and Suzi Haddow in goal absorbed the pressure.

Some excellent through balls from defence were saw Arran back on the attack. There was some good passing play through midfield, with Jenna Cook, Mia Walker and Susie Murchie switching play from side to side and finding openings up the wings.

A further goal from Lorraine made it 3-0 for Arran at half-time.

Arran continued their good play in the second half. Forwards Delyth Mair-Jones and Julia Kulis rotated to take a turn in midfield, providing excellent passes and runs in attack.

Kaitlyn Haddow, Lorraine and Jenna maintained the pressure in attack, resulting in a further three goals for Lorraine in the third quarter of the game. In the final quarter Arran worked to maintain their clean sheet, with determined defensive work and concentration to the end.

The opposition selected Delyth Mair-Jones as the player of the match for her skilful forward play and work to set-up goals. Arran selected Jenny Crockett as their dame of the game for her excellent play in defence and accurate early passes to get the team on the attack.

The team thanks Graeme Reid for umpiring.

Arran play Glasgow University IV tomorrow (Saturday) in Glasgow.
