Students cook up a scone storm for Care Lochaber

Members of Care Lochaber had a pre Christmas treat when they were invited to enjoy a morning of home made scones and pancakes by professional cookery students of UHI North, West and Hebrides in Fort William.

While the students, Rachael Beveridge, Liam Gunn and Alex Johnston, who having given up their day off to go in and bake the ‘goodies’ in the kitchen with Course Leader -Hospitality and Professional Cookery – Charlene Aitchison, her colleague Michael Campbell gave a live demonstration of making Cranberry jam.

As in many top restaurants the ingredients were mixed and cooked right in front of the special customers while the students explained the process at every stage as it bubbled on the portable cooker, ending with a final festive flourish of edible gold and silver dust.

When cool enough it was also spread in copious quantities on the still warm scones and pancakes, which were very popular with the diners.
