Brook wins as darts season checks out on a high

The latest Oban & District Darts (ODD) League season has come to a close after several action packed weeks that saw some great new and old talent show of their skills.

The last round at The Claredon on Friday night was a tense one, with the top 8 players in the to cement their places in the final overall table as Adam Brook took another win.

Ross Higgins, Ryan Gilles and Scott MacLennan all made their debuts, with players placed into four groups on the night to battle it out to make the quarter-finals.

The first knockout match pitted third against fourth in the league as Keegan McPhee charged into a two leg lead against Andrew Richie.

However, Richie took his play up a gear to fight back for a 3-2 win, before the second quarter-final saw MacLennan overcome Jordan Kerr 3-0 on his ODD debut.

Adam Brook and Kenny Carmichael were next up and this led to another thrilling affair, with league leader Brook edging through with a 3-1 win.

In the final quarter-final, David Flanagan defeated Connor MacDonald 3-1 to set up an exciting round of semi-final encounters.

The first semi-final didn’t disappoint as Richie faced off against MacLennan in a heated battle, which went all the way to 2-2.

In the knowledge that a podium position could prove vital, Richie was able to nail the final double to make it into the final.

The last four encounter proved to be another heated one and Brook was able to overcome Flanagan 3-0 to once again make it to the final after both players had scored strongly.

This left the league leader to battle it out against Richie in the last final of the season and it was another thriller, with Brook preserving to triumph 4-1 on the night.

Richie was a win and a bonus point away from grabbing second place in the overall table after picking up two 180 bonus points on the night.

He wired two 140s and a couple of 100 plus finishes, but the pressure was getting too much in a tense match, which saw the two players draw level at 1-1 after two closely contested legs.

In the end, Brook pinned his doubles to win the night, but the Player of the Week award went to Richie after the runner-up put in a determined display, which involved two 180s, countless 140s and 100 plus checkouts.

Brook also hit four 171-180s on the night, while Moray MacNiven hit an impressive 162 with three triple 18s and 100 Carmichael also hit an 100 plus checkout (104).

These final round results meant Brook took another ODD league title on 95 points, with Leon Smith second on 47 points and Richie’s final day display helping him finish third with 46 points.

A finals night will now be held on Friday December 1 at The Claerdon as the top 8 in the overall table face each other in a two group round robin competition.
