Strong flock of Ravens tackle Whitecraigs WISPS

The Oban Ravens Squash Team were strongly represented in their last competitive matches of the year in Glasgow last weekend.

Ravens played across all age categories across Pools A-D in the latest WISPS (Women in Scotland Playing Squash) event in Whitecraigs on Saturday, November 25.

The dedicated ladies were represented by Rebecca Christopher in Pool A as she picked up a win in Box 2, before a narrow 1-2 loss in the 3/4 play-off.

Claire Easton and Denise Gemmel also performed strongly in Pool B, with the latter awarded the Raven Of The Day title for her staunch determination and never-give-in attitude.

Both players progressed to different play-offs from a large field in their age category group.

In Pool C, Carrie Craik performed admirably to win one of her three matches, while Pool D saw the Raven’s Sasha MacCallum make her Raven debut on the squash court.

The 14-year-old played in her first ever competitive squash match away from home and is the first junior to come through the ranks to play in the Ravens squad.

She certainly rose to the occasion, playing with grit and tenacity to earn a lot of respect from her fellow ravens and other competitors in her group.

The next WISPS competition in the Ravens calendar will take place on Sunday January 28 in Dundee, with the club’s Christmas Dinner and end of prizegiving taking place on Friday (December 1).

The Ravens also continue to train every Thursday evening (from 6.30pm) at Atlantis Leisure and will be looking forward to a well earned break over the festive period.

Nicola Morgan from the Ravens said: “It has been an incredible year for the Oban Ravens with some memorable matches and events at home and nationally.”
