Work of Lochaber artists on show at Holroyd Gallery

Holroyd Gallery is delighted to exhibit two Lochaber artists Morag Young and Lisa Glaze, along with other gallery artists.

Morag has lived for most of her life on the remote west coast of Scotland, with her family originating in the Outer Hebrides.

Morag creates preliminary sketches on location, but her paintings often come to life organically. Her sketches serve as a guide, but her imagination ultimately shapes the composition.

“I take pleasure in the physical art of painting and enjoy experimenting with different techniques such as layering, tone, colour temperature and opacity. Our response to visual art is similar to our response to music. Abstract art evokes emotions and themes that cannot be expressed in words. The true meaning of a painting is only realised when someone who views it connects with it.”

Lisa lives in Onich near the shores of Loch Linnhe. She has an intuitive approach to painting. Acrylic pieces can often acquire many layers in this process, including collage, ink and graphite until a resolution starts to appear.

The final painting will be guided by the intimate knowledge of landscape and nature in which she has been immersed for many decades, living on the Scottish west coast.

“After many years exploring the mountains of Scotland, it is like painting old friends. Living in Lochaber, however, it is easy to be distracted by the water.”

Sunday’s exhibition preview at the gallery in North Ballachulish, just off the A82 at the old ferry slip, was a huge success with people visiting from across the area.

Representatives from Pixel Spirits distillery, next door to the gallery, offered samples of their delicious gins. Master distiller Craig explained a bit about the distilling process and recipe development, which they go into in more detail at their on-site distilling experiences and classes.

The art exhibition continues on Tuesdays until Saturdays 10am to 4pm, closed for lunch between 1pm and 2pm. For information on future exhibitions and previews subscribe to the gallery’s newsletter at www.holroydgallery.co.uk
