Hollow Mountain String Band returns to Benderloch

Foot stomping Americana will return to Benderloch when Argyll’s The Hollow Mountain String Band take to the Victory Hall stage on Saturday December 2.

This is the first gig without the band’s beloved bass player Nigel Frydman, who died last year. Now they are a foursome, featuring Rab Woods on lead; John McMahon on rhythm guitar; Ann Barlow on fiddle and Michelle McAnally on drums, with members sharing vocal duties.

‘We are looking at getting a new bass player in eventually, but we’ve had so many requests for shows we decided to give it a whirl as a quartet,’ said Rab.

‘Without Nigel to hold down the bottom end, our sound has changed a wee bit. It’s slightly stripped down, but it still has that kick that always gets folks out on the dance floor.’

Lively, fun and energetic performances, combined with up-tempo arrangements and driving rhythms are the band’s hallmarks, with classic songs, original compositions, traditional sing-alongs as well as the occasional surprise.

Victory Hall will be bouncing with crowd pleasers such as Hank Williams, Dolly Parton, Steve Earle and Bob Dylan, as well as the band’s popular originals.

‘If The Hollow Mountain String Band were a beer, it would be the best fizzy fun lager in the world,’ said Campbell Cameron who, with his wife Joy, organise the Victory Hall gigs. ‘We invite everyone to come out to the ‘Benderloch Palladium’ on December 2.’

Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Reserve your tickets, priced £15, by calling 01631 720247. There will be a cash bar. Visit The Hollow Mountain String Band and The Victory Hall Gigs on Facebook for more details.
