Christmas sparkle

Campbeltown is looking magnificent since the switch-on of the town’s Christmas lights, with shop windows and other displays adding some extra sparkle.

Some of us may be guilty of absent-mindedly assuming the town’s Christmas lights will go on each year, without fully appreciating the level of effort that goes into making that happen.

It takes a mammoth amount of work by many groups and organisations, coordinated by the Campbeltown Christmas Lights Group’s very small committee of dedicated volunteers.

The lights group thanked so many people for their part in making this year’s lights switch-on possible that we did not have space to list them all in our coverage of the event, prompting us to encourage people to visit the group’s Facebook page to view the full statement.

On the Facebook page, people can also find a link to donate to the group via PayPal.

Many people do not carry cash so would have been unable to donate to the collection buckets last Friday night, but please consider showing the group some support by donating online now.

The group does so much to raise the £5,000 required to keep the lights on each year – and members tell us they already have big plans for their 2024 winter ball – but let’s help lighten the load, if we can.
