Pupils disappointed after fourth consecutive defeat

Campbeltown Pupils were overcome by East Kilbride Thistle at home last Saturday, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat.

Heavily depleted, with 10 players unavailable from the squad, it proved too much for a struggling team playing with little confidence.

A bright early start created a few chances for the McFayden Contractors-home sponsored Kintyre side.

Only the crossbar and a last ditch goal-line clearance prevented the Pupils going ahead before Scott Souden slotted home the opener after 12 minutes.

The visitors equalised in the 18th minute, when a free kick floated into the box was headed home by the unmarked number five.

East Kilbride Thistle went 2-1 ahead shortly afterwards with another poorly defended goal conceded.

The Pupils got back level a minute into the second half through Calum Ellis, with a skilful run finished off by rounding the keeper to equalise.

Unfortunately for the Pupils the equaliser failed to inspire them as they fell behind once again soon afterwards.

The visitors scored another three goals before the end, against a team so short of confidence, to finish with a very flattering 6-2 scoreline.

“This is not the time for the Pupils to start feeling sorry for themselves as the games keep coming in this relentless league,” said a club spokesperson.

“Many thanks to Archie and Kenny and staff at Howdens Joinery for sponsoring the match ball last Saturday.”

Tomorrow (Saturday), Royal Albert visit Kintyre Park, with a 1.30pm kick-off.

The clubs’ meeting at Stonehouse earlier in the season ended in a 3-3 draw.
