Darts season finishes with a flourish

The Oban and District Darts (ODD) League celebrated the end of its latest season with an awards ceremony and contest between the top eight players in the overall table.

Adam Brook was awarded the first place trophy at The Claredon on Friday night for winning the league outright, with Leon Smith and Andrew Richie receiving the 2nd and 3rd place trophies respectively.

Meanwhile, the 4th-8th overall place medals were awarded to Keegan McPhee, Kenny Carmichael, David Flanagan, Lewis McPhee and Iain MacArthur.

The Most Improved players were Jack Whitley, Jordan Kerr and Keegan McPhee, while the Player of the Season awards went to Leon Smith, Andrew Richie and Iain MacArthur.

However, the highest checkout of the season was achieved by Colin Thomson, who hit an impressive 152.

On the finals night itself, an amazing standard was set during a tense round of games, with cash prizes on offer at each stage of the competition.

There were 13 entries into the lower league tournament and this meant a straight knockout competition was held, with a race to three in the first round.

After three rounds Duncan MacMillan faced Daniel MacMillan in the lower league final, with the former triumphing 4-2 after finishing 12th overall this season.

Meanwhile, a round robin top eight tournament saw two seeded groups of four battle it out to progress into the Semi-finals.

After another highly competitive group stage, Andrew Richie defeated Leon Smith 4-2 in the Semi-finals, before Adam Brook progressed with a 4-1 win against Lewis McPhee.

This set up a final between Andrew Richie and Adam Brook, and it was the league winner who stormed to a 5-0 win to take the honours on Friday night as well.

The start date of the next ODD league season will be announced soon and organisers thanked Moray MacNiven (M MacNiven Building Contractor) for sponsoring it throughout this season.
