Sad passing of Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club stalwart

Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club has paid tribute to club stalwart Alan Crawford following his passing recently.

Alan, who was originally from Stralachlan, Strachur and developed his shinty skills with the local club, was a member of the 1973 Camanachd Cup-winning team.

When he left Strachur to take up a post with the Blood Transfusion Service in Glasgow, he started playing with GMA, possibly influenced by his uncle Donald Crawford, who was a Glasgow Celtic Society Cup winner with GMA. Alan subsequently moved to work with the Scottish Fire Service until his retirement.

Alan was always a full forward with GMA and although small in stature proved to be an excellent goal scorer.

He is well remembered as the scorer of the decisive fourth goal in the 1973 cup final and his goals tally in the 1975/76 season was a significant factor in GMA winning the Dunn League.

Alan lost his wife Elizabeth more than two years ago, but leaves sons Douglas, Stuart, Euan, daughter Heather and the wider family.

The funeral service is at Woodside Crematorium, Paisley at 10am on Friday December 8.
