Changes to bin collection dates during festive period

North Ayrshire Council has announced changes to bin collection dates for Arran households during the festive period.

Bins due for collection on Monday December 25 will be collected on Wednesday December 27; bins due for collection on Tuesday December 26 will be collected on Thursday December 28; bins due for collection on Wednesday December 27 will be collected on Friday December 29; bins due for collection on Monday January 1 will be collected on Wednesday January 3; bins due for collection on Tuesday January 2 will be collected on Thursday January 4; and bins due for collection on Wednesday January 3 will be collected on Friday January 5.

Everyone is asked to put their bin out for 7am as the actual time of collection might vary during the holidays. If adverse weather affects your area, the council will return to collect your bin when possible.

Special uplifts will stop on Friday December 22 and resume on Monday January 8.

Councillor Tony Gurney, cabinet member for green environment and economy, said: “Over the festive period, many people end up with extra packaging and, potentially, more food waste than usual.

“We can all play our part by recycling material in the correct bins and by using wrapping paper and cardboard tubes that can be recycled.

“The test for wrapping paper is that if you scrunch it up and it stays scrunched and it has no glitter or foil, you can recycle it.

“Please take a note of any changes to collection dates in your area and have a great festive season.”

Arran commercial waste collections due on Christmas Day and Boxing Day will be on Wednesday December 27, except for Brodick collections which will be uplifted on Boxing Day. Commercial waste collections due on January 1 and 2 will be uplifted on January 3, except for those in Brodick which will be collected on January 2. Further details are available by calling 01770 600338.

In all areas, the council’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRC) will close at 1pm on Christmas Eve and Hogmanay, with the last entry at 12.30pm. They will be closed on the Monday and Tuesday of each week. Real Christmas trees, in five foot or less sections, can be deposited at the Brodick HWRC.
