A time for giving

While there are examples of generosity throughout the year, there’s no doubt December is a time for giving.

And just as we’re asked to shop local, we encourage you to give local also.

This week’s paper is packed with festive fundraising activities carried out by various groups in and around Campbeltown – all worthy causes and all giving back something to the community – Campbeltown Brass, the Salvation Army, Nimble Fingers, Mairi Semple Cancer Fund and Campbeltown Fire Fighters, to name but a few.

National organisations have also been spreading the love in Kintyre.

It was incredibly heart-warming to hear about 11-year-old Archie Nisbet’s flight of fancy last weekend and how flight operators Loganair pulled out all the stops to help a young lad realise his dreams.

Archie has autism and already has a high level of knowledge on all things flight related.

Loganair staff went above and beyond to welcome Archie and his mum Kath and to further that knowledge by taking the time to explain all the technical aspects of his flight from Campbeltown to Glasgow, Aberdeen to Kirkwall and back again.

Giving doesn’t have to mean the handing over of money. As Loganair have shown, the giving of time and knowledge can be equally as valuable.

Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone gave just a little bit this December, in whatever form they can?
