Coaching day helps Ravens soar

Members of the Oban Ravens Squash Team spent a valuable day developing their coaching and squash skills in Bridge of Allan last month.

Four Ravens made the journey to the Bridge of Allan Sports Club for the Scottish Squash Women & Girls Only Level 1 Coaching course on Sunday November 19.

Former Scottish junior squash champion, Kirsty Lobban was on hand to the ladies a  gain confidence in their own abilities, while also provided a a useful platform for them to help less experienced players, who might just be starting out at the club.

“It was about bringing girls up to the level where they can teach new players and juniors, while improving their own knowledge on aspects of their game like racket grip”, said Ravens coach, Colin MacNiven.

“You want to introduce different aspects to make training challenging, but fun at the same time, so that our players want to come back next week.”

One of the Ravens that took part, Laura Mackay added: “I’ve only been playing for around half a year and it was a privilege to be asked to go along. We learnt a lot of practical skills, but there was also lots of theory in the classroom.

The Ravens train every Thursday evening (from 6pm) at Atlantis Leisure and will be looking forward to a well earned break over the festive period.
