Journalist and broadcaster Lesley Riddoch has just completed a new film – Denmark the State of Happiness – with BBC and Channel 4 filmmaker Charlie Stuart.
In 2020, the pair also made a film together about Estonia that has clocked up almost half a million views online. They are hoping the new Denmark film will do the same!
It tries to show why Danes are the world’s happiest people, delving into their unique education system, well-designed cities, green revolution and swimming in the docks of Copenhagen, which is where the film begins.
A double bill of those films will be screened in the Oban Phoenix on February 1 at 6.30pm, followed by a Q&A with Lesley herself.
“I’m asking folk to bring someone who maybe still needs convincing about Scottish independence. The film doesn’t mention indy at all – but watching how well a small neighbouring state has done brings Scotland’s predicament to mind fairly effortlessly,” she said.
Green MP Caroline Lucas said that “Progressives in Scotland, and indeed across the UK, would do well to learn from a radical blueprint with fairness at its heart.’
And writer Val McDermid said the film gave “a tantalising glimpse” of what an independent Scotland could look like.
