Campbeltown’s Main Street Boots building is for sale, following the closure of the branch.
The shop at 19 Main Street shut in November amid a number of branch closures across the country after the national health and beauty retailer and pharmacy chain announced plans to “consolidate the business” by reducing the total number of stores in the UK from 2,200 to 1,900 by the end of 2023.
At the time, the Courier asked Boots what plans were in place for the closed building, something that was of particular interest to the community given its prime town centre location, but a spokesman said the company could not comment on individual branches.
Just a few weeks later, after all furnishings and Boots signs were removed from the store, a ‘for sale’ sign appeared on the building.
In the property listing, selling agent Smith Price RRG writes: “The property is situated in a prime position on Main Street, adjacent to the highly popular Kintyre Larder Coffee Shop & Deli. Other retailers nearby include a wide mix of local retailers including The Original Factory Shop and Scotbet.
“The property comprises a lock-up shop arranged on the ground floor of a larger tenement property offering the following approximate floor areas: ground floor sales: 57.60 m²/620 ft²; ground floor ancillary: 30.84 m²/332 ft².
“The feuhold interest is being made available with full vacant possession with offers invited in excess of £50,000, subject to conclusion of missives. Consideration may be given to letting the premises – terms on application.
“We are informed by the local rating authority that the premises have been assessed for rating purposes as follows: rateable value: £5,400; UBR (2023/2024): 49.8p.”
Campbeltown now has one Boots branch, located on Longrow South, which is dealing with all medical prescriptions for the area. Customers are being asked to be patient as staff adjust to the transition.
