It was full house for the Rotary Club of Oban’s traditional carol concert on Sunday.

The audience packed the Corran Halls for a glorious afternoon of Christmas music, song and festive celebration, raising more than £700 for charities in the area.
Rotarians thanked the Reverend Alex MacCallum from Kilmore and Oban Church of Scotland for taking part, as well as Susannah Whittle and Katie MacLellan from Oban High School for their readings.
Teachers, parents and caregivers who gave up their time so the choirs from Oban High School, Park, Rockfield, Lochnell and Barcaldine primary schools could raise the rafters with their voices, were also thanked.
And appreciation was also extended to Oban Bach Choir and Orchestra, Oban High School, Spotlight Theatre Juniors, the Community Choir, Oban and Lorn Strathspey and Reel Society and The Boogies.
Norman Nicholson was singled out for his help and for conducting the combined orchestra on the day.
The audience was also applauded for their vocal support during the afternoon and a huge thank you went to the staff of the Corran Halls and the Spotlight Theatre team for their help in making the afternoon a massive success too.
Rotary Club of Oban President Ciorsti Baxter is also sending heartfelt best wishes community wide on behalf of all members.
In a seasonal message, she said: “We couldn’t do what we do without you and all your support. We are so thankful to our friends and supporters from all sectors of the community.
“This year the Am-Am Golf Tournament and the Duck Race were amazing successes thanks to the many, many sponsors and supporters from the business community and members of the public who generously donated money, raffle prizes and purchased super and regular ducks!
“With the success of our fundraising, we have been able to support many young people from Young Carers, Oban High School, and the primary schools by running competitions and through funding trips and experiences for them. In addition, we have been so excited to be able to offer financial and volunteer support to numerous local events, charities, and good causes.
“We have also been able to send money to the Rotary Foundation in its ongoing fight against Polio. Our last big events of the year were the OLDS Christmas lunch and the Carol Concert which are both highlights for us as much as for the community.
“The vision of Rotary International is ‘Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities and in ourselves’ That is what we are committed to.
“We are excited for what the future holds. Next year will be the Club’s 75th
anniversary. We are determined to see it thrive in Oban and Lorn for at least another 75.
“It’s not all work though. We’ve had lots of fun with great speakers, enjoyable lunches, and dinners, lots of golf, clay pigeon shooting, bowls tournaments, curling and even pickleball.”
