Listen out for history on Hogmanay

History will be made as Campbeltown brings in the bells this new year, when an old tradition is brought back to life.

For the first time in about 50 years, according to research by local historians, Campbeltown Town Hall’s bells will ring out at midnight on Hogmanay.

South Kintyre Development Trust, which owns the building, invited the community to party into 2024 at its ‘Hogmanay hoolie in the hall’ on Sunday December 31.

A band of local musicians has been booked to entertain guests, who are in with a chance of winning the opportunity to ring the town hall bell at midnight.

The event, proceeds from which will go towards the Robert Black Memorial Helipad, will also feature a light buffet and a balloon drop at midnight.

Such was the excitement at the chance to be part of history that tickets for the party quickly sold out.

Those who missed out on tickets can still listen to history being made, as the bells will ring out across Campbeltown for all to hear.
