Skipinnish 25 years concert

Celtic band Skipinnish has announced a special anniversary concert in the Highlands to celebrate 25 years of making music.

In early 1999, two recently acquainted college friends decided to have a tune and a dram together. One tune led to another, one gig led to another and a musical powerhouse was born.

Next year Skipinnish will celebrate 25 years with an anniversary concert on Saturday July 6 at the Big Top under canvas, Bught Park, Inverness.

The rise of Skipinnish has seen them shoot to the very top of Celtic music. Once a small ceilidh band, they have since evolved and grown to something massively unique, with sell-out shows across the country’s biggest music venues. Skipinnish have attracted huge audiences, with their hit songs such as Alive, The Island, Last of the Hunters and Walking on the Waves resonating across the globe.

With the loose ends of lockdown activities now tied up, Skipinnish members are taking a firm grip of the musical throttle and revving up to their quarter century.

Bught Park will be their flagship Highland celebration, ensuring 2024 is a momentous year in the band’s journey.

Skipinnish founder member Angus MacPhail said: “The Highlands and Islands are the heartland of our music, and it feels very fitting that we are able to mark our 25th birthday with a major show in Inverness. Some of the biggest and best shows we have been lucky to perform have been staged at Bught Park and we are delighted to be returning there next July.”

This is the first show to be announced for the Live in the City 2024 series, organised by Inverness-based concert promoters, LCC Live.

Les Kidger, director of LCC Live added: “We’re delighted to be working with Skipinnish once again and to be a part of such an important milestone for the band. It’s set to be a very special show and we’re so excited to welcome everyone back to the Big Top under canvas at Bught Park next year.”

“Skipinnish were out of this world then they last performed there in 2022 and their fans had the most amazing night, so we can’t wait to do it all again for their 25th anniversary.”
