Live dates taking Argyll and Lochaber by storm

Highland musicians Gary Innes and Ewen Henderson are set to take Argyll and Lochaber by storm with a string of live dates across the regions this autumn.

The multi-award-winning pair are most commonly found performing with Mànran, the band they co-founded in 2010, but Gary and Ewen will return to their hometowns and venues across the West Coast for some show-stopping performances full of tunes, songs and stories.

They play Appin Village Hall on November 2, Taynuilt Village Hall on November 3 and The Rockfield Centre in Oban on November 4, before heading to Memorial Hall, Roybridge on November 10, Kilmallie Community Centre on November 11 and Ballachulish Village Hall on November 12.

The pair are well-versed at travelling the Highland highways and byways as a duo as well as playing in some far-flung corners across the world, from Kazakhstan to China. Gary and Ewen will be joined on their Argyll and Lochaber dates by pianist and former BBC Radio Scotland Young musician finalist, Rory Matheson.

Gary Innes is well known as a professional musician, a former Scotland shinty captain and the first ever ambassador of the Camanachd Cup. He added another string to his bow in 2016 when he took over from the legendary Dr Robbie Shepherd MBE as the host of BBC Radio Scotland’s Take the Floor and has subsequently added to this with his own Sunday evening requests show, Your Requests with Gary Innes. Gary is also the mastermind behind the world’s biggest night of traditional music titled, Hoolie in the Hydro, which this year takes place in Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on Saturday December 9.

Ewen hails from Fort William and was naturally steeped in the traditional music and Gaelic culture of the area from an early age. Outwith Mànran, Ewen has toured the world with a host of top Scottish and global artists, including the world-renowned Battlefield Band and world music pioneers the Afro-Celt Sound System. Earlier this year Ewen also joined the presenting team on BBC Radio Scotland’s newest Saturday night piping programme, Piping Sounds and Crùnluath on BBC Radio nan Gàidheal.

Gary Innes said: “Ewen and I are really excited about these runs of gigs across Argyll and Lochaber this November. We always receive such a warm welcome from west coast audiences and so much of our music and stories come from this very landscape, culture and the time we have spent growing up in and around these areas.

“We’re looking forward to hopefully brightening up some dark autumn nights for folk with some good Highland music and craic at venues and village halls in places that hold a dear place in our hearts.”
