Football fans rally in memory of Roddy

Friends and family of Campbeltown man Roddy McAllister, who died in a car accident near Tarbert in December 2021, came together on Saturday September 23 to play a second tournament in his memory.

Four teams took part in the memorial seven-a-side tournament – Roddy’s Celtic, Rangers, Bomba’s Bandits (AM Transport), and the Campbeltown Cartel.

Games of 20 minutes straight were played on the all-weather pitch at Kinloch Green.

The first two games saw Bomba’s Bandits win 1-0 over the Rangers team and Roddy’s Celtic win 1-0 over the Campbeltown Cartel.

Celtic won 2-0 when playing the Bandits in round two while Rangers lost 4-1 to the Cartel with young Graham Brown scoring the goal of the day.

The last two games of the day saw the Cartel redeem themselves with a 7-1 win over the Bandits while, in an Old Firm clash, Celtic ran out convincing winners 8-1 which may have been more but the match reporter got carried away in the excitement of the match to keep count!

The winner of the Roddy McAllister Memorial Shield was Roddy’s Celtic.

Friend of the late Celtic supporter and one of the tournament organisers Graham Ellis said: “We all would like to thank Archie Mitchell and Stephen Scally Snr (Pop) for refereeing the games and a massive thank you to every one who donated, including D McNair and Son (match sponsor), The Brow Clinic and Wee Toon Trends, and Kinloch Bar for hosting the players after the tournament.

“So far £600 has been raised. The money will go to Youth Impact UK which helps get kids off street.

“We know Roddy would love this as he was a family man who loved his kids.

“Thank you all again. Campbeltown is simply the best.”
