Taking strides towards recovery

More than 100 people stepped out last Saturday at Argyll’s first Recovery Walk held in Campbeltown and the surrounding area.

The event coincided with National Recovery Month which takes place every September.

For over a decade, Recovery Walk Scotland has taken place during the month also with the aim to make recovery from substance use visible and accessible to more people, and to reduce the stigma that unfortunately still accompanies addiction.

Through the addiction recovery process people can drastically change and improve their physical health, mental health, spiritual health, financial health, relationships, parenting skills, career capabilities, and the trajectory of their overall general life.

People struggling with an alcohol or drug problem should get the same support and treatment as those with any other health condition without fear of judgment.

This year’s National Walk took place in Greenock with communities all over the country joining in with walks of their own.

Financed by Argyll and Bute HSCP using Scottish Government funding, several local charities supported the event with HSCP saying that other Argyll Communities are now looking to Campbeltown for inspiration in helping with addiction problems.

Together we can end the stigma around drug and alcohol addiction by having a kinder approach to those affected by problem substance use.

Well done Campbeltown and district.
