Spean Bridge playpark funding found

Spean Bridge youngsters are jumping with joy this week after Spean Bridge, Roy Bridge and Achnacarry (SBRBA) Community Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) announced it had raised enough funds to replace the playpark equipment at Altour Road.

Earlier this year, Highland Council deemed the former apparatus “beyond economical repair” and removed it from the site.

A newer playpark, Dalour Cottages, exists on the opposite side of the busy A86 trunk road but with no pedestrian crossing is inaccessible for young children without a parent or guardian in attendance.

At its May meeting, SBRBA Community Council tasked the SCIO to raise the required £16,500. This has now been achieved through successful appeals to Killiechonate Woodlands, £1,000; SSE Renewables, £7,000; Highland Council, £4,300, and SBRBA CC, £500.

The SCIO also donated £3,700 of its £8,500 annual income given the strength of local concern on the matter.

John Fotheringham, chairman of SBRBA CC and SCIO said: “The community council is extremely pleased children will once again have somewhere safe to play. We thank everyone who contributed but especially our SCIO and its community development officer Tony Perriam.”
