Winter festival parade will be a ‘breeze’

Remember the giant puppet who stormed her way into Oban in 2021?

Well, next month you can meet her little sister Breeze who will be leading Oban Winter Festival’s opening parade.

Storm, masterminded by makers Vision Mechanics,  was 10 metres high and Breeze will be 3m tall – still putting her heads above the crowds of people who are sure to descend on the town centre to join in the parade that will be leaving the Corran Halls at 4.45pm on Friday November 17.

When Storm came to Oban, she drew about 4,000 people who lined the streets to welcome her.

Winter Festival organisers are hoping that although Breeze is smaller, she will still be a huge attraction.

And Storm’s little sis will be sticking to this year’s festival theme of  Re-use, Re-create and Re-invent.

Organisers are inviting children and grown-ups to make their own fancy dress from re-cyclables.

“We’re excited to see what ideas people come up with and, of course, to welcome Storm’s little sister Breeze to town. She’s sure to bring in a crowd,” said a festival spokesperson.

Street band Obana will also be in the parade, striking up a feel-good buzz at the start of what is set to be a bumper-paced festival with events for all the family until November 26.

Shop owners are also being encouraged to start thinking up ideas for their window dressing displays in time for the festival opening, brightening up the town as winter sets in.

After the parade, Breeze will go up to Glencruitten to be part of the ever-popular Winter Woods experience.

This year businesses and organisations are being invited to come up with their own installations as part of the illuminated trail, which will run on both of the festival weekends, rather than just the one.
